About Russel Ray

I've been involved with photography since 1967. I served on the newspaper and annual staffs in junior high and high school, and was a member of the Texas A&M University Photography Club.

I bought a Canon A1 in 1978 that I had until I moved to San Diego in 1993. In 1995 I bought

a Kodak digital SLR with 1 MP resolution for a little over $5,000. When I dropped it in 2003, the camera shop wanted $250 just to diagnose what needed repairing, but sitting right there on the service counter were many point & shoot cameras with 5 MP resolution for just $199. I guess you know what I did.

In June 2009, I bought a Canon Rebel XSi. My daily runabout lens is a Tamron 75-300mm telephoto-macro lens; it is the lens that I use to take most of my photos. I also have a Tamron 28-80mm lens that I use for landscape photography and buildings, and a Sigma 50mm macro lens for small subjects such as ladybugs, ants, and snails.
